Q: I purchased about four red lobster (canada) restaurant giftcards in 2006 (two years ago) from a fundraiser. It also says that I can use them for Olive Garden Restaurants. I checked the balance and it hasn't deducted, even though on the back it states: "Except in California and where prohibited by law, if you don't use your card for a 24-month period, a $1.50 monthly maintanence fee will be deducted from the balance until you use it again". The redlobster site now has a new giftcard, and it also states that "there is no expiry date". Does this also apply to the ones that were from two years ago? Are the Giftcards still usable?

A: Regulations on giftcards have changed and where they were issued can impact on any deductions. I would call a local outlet where you're likeliest to use the card and have them check the balance for you. Make sure you get the name of the person who tells you.
