Q: A server never forgets a bad tipper or people that stiff them. 99% of the time we can tell what kind of tip you are going to leave so you can believe I've seen some really nasty things. So the question is do people realize this?
A: I think people really don't realize you have the power to make them sick. I have served for a number of years and yes it may be service but the reality is it is the sign of the times. People barely have the money to eat out let alone tip. Personally I would not eat out if I didn't have enough to tip accordingly. And even if the server was really crappy I would have said a comment nicely like "I see you're having a bad day" and that would maybe make someone realize they aren't doing a good job and change. The only real good tippers are the people that work or have worked in the industry or have had family that has. You just have to take the good with the bad and hope the bad tippers get a flat tire. ;)
