Q: I'm thinking of getting a job as a hostess/waitress at a restaurant. I've never done it before and my parents don't want me to, but I'm starting college and there are a lot of restaurants near my school, so I figured why not try it? I know there will be crude/rude people everywhere but can anyone recommend a decent place to waitress? Maybe a family restaurant? The more suggestions, the better! Thank you!!! :] Sorry, I live in Southern California, fyi.

A: Well you ddin't even say where you will be living or going to school so it's hard to say. Just think about each place you're thinking about working... You mentioned it's by a college, try a popular sports bar and grill, those are busy year round (especially near colleges) so you don't have to worry about getting less tips in the winter Don't work at some run down junky place. Try to judge how many people eat there every day. If it's near a college I doubt a faily restaurant would have many people eating there, but a trendy hangout would. I live in the bay area, CA and will soon be applying to restaurants cuz it's what I love (i work at a. airport right now)...I will be applying at places near a college campus, and the places I chose were Bucca Di Beppo, Cheesecake factory, a popular sports bar, pf changs, and deshutes brewery. These are all popular with the younger crowd (which frequents that are the most)... You have to also think about how much the food costs. If there's a trendy hangout and all the food is under $5 you might not want to work there considering the normal person tips only 10%.
